PhD: University of Tokyo

Currently I am enrolled at the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, where I am a PhD candidate in International Relations at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. I am writing my thesis for submission in March 2009.

My PhD research is about British Imperial Policy and Japanese Surrendered Personnel (JSP) in South East Asia, in the period 1945-1947. Further information about this issue is available on a site I am creating for Japanese veterans who were victims of this problem, JSPPOW.net.

MA: Waseda University

From April 2001 to March 2003, I was enrolled at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, at the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies. I completed an MA in International Relations, writing my thesis on the subject of Japan’s legal and moral responsibility towards British Prisoners of War (POWs) and the settlement of claims arising out of the treatment of POWs by the Japanese.

BA: University of Cambridge

I was enrolled at the University of Cambridge, Churchill College, from October 1992 to July 1995, where I completed an MA in Natural Sciences (Experimental Psychology). My research project was an empirical study of the moral development of five- and nine-year-old children.

After graduation, I worked for one year as a research assistant at the Winnicott Research Unit, part of the Department of Psychiatry.
