My research in history and international relations relates primarily to the Japanese Surrendered Personnel (JSP) who found themselves under British control in South East Asia at the end of the Second World War. This issue is at the intersection of the Second World War, prisoner-of-war issue, start of the Cold War, and end of empire in Asia.
My current main research project examines the experiences of sexual minority students and faculty on Japanese university campuses.
I am also part of a research group examining the reasons for the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields in Japan.
